  • Video series: Ghana’s tech lab This week, the world marked the UN International Day of Science, Technology and Innovation for the South, a reminder of the importance of innovation in addressing problems and generating opportunities in developing nations. In that spirit, we’re launching a new video series produced by UNICEF StartUp LabUNICEF Ghana Country Office. Each week, we’ll spotlight inspiring African startups that are harnessing technology and creativity to drive change. We start this week with STEMAIDE, an initiative whose goal is to use STEM education to enable every young African to shape their own future. Watch the first video and see how STEMAIDE is fostering creativity, curiosity, and skills to create innovative solutions to real-world challenges. Minu Limbu #DigitalImpact

  • “It’s a way of telling these children: you exist, and you have the right to be protected.”    Raoul is not a doctor. He doesn’t carry vaccines from village to village. Yet, from an office in Yaoundé, Cameroon, he saves lives every single day. His tools? Data. Maps. Technology. His mission? Making sure no child is invisible.    For the first time, isolated communities, nomadic camps, and villages missing from maps are being seen, recognized, and included.    Imagine what happens when we scale this approach to reach children everywhere: not only for immunization, but also for education, nutrition, and protection.    👉 Read the full article to discover how Raoul and his team are proving that with the right tools, no child has to remain invisible.    #DigitalTransformation #DigitalHealth #DigitalImpact

  • Fatuma spent twelve years in silence, unable to hear her mother’s voice, follow instructions from a teacher, or hear her friends’ laughter. But one day, all that silence came to an end. Thanks to digital hearing aids, Fatuma’s world changed in an instant, opening the door to education, confidence, and a world she could finally hear.     Her experience is proof positive that technology, when made accessible, can change a child’s life entirely. • Using tech to vaccinate every child      Through the Reach the Unreached (RtU) initiative, UNICEF has worked hand in hand with WorldPop,  CartONG and MapAction to harness data, AI, and geospatial innovation in the fight against vaccine inequity.    RtU used detailed population data, expert input from national partners, and custom tools like maps and dashboards to support decision-making. This approach helped identify 1.4 million under-immunized children across five countries and led to over 95,000 zero-dose children receiving their first vaccine.    This partnership shows the power of collaboration: data scientists, humanitarian mappers, and cross-sectoral national teams coming together to make vaccines truly accessible to every child.      👉 Read more about this innovative approach in the 2024 UNICEF Digital Technology Annual Report: https://lnkd.in/eY3gRvpZ      As we celebrate these successes, we’re excited to begin phase 2 of RtU where we build on this progress to help every child, everywhere, survive and thrive.     #ReachTheUnreached      UNICEF Cameroon Unicef CHAD UNICEF Côte d'Ivoire UNICEF Guinée Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance Gates Foundation Africa Africa CDC

  • UNICEF ICT Division's Annual Report 2024 is now out! In 2024, UNICEF’s Information and Communication Technology Division (ICTD) played a vital role in helping the organization respond to escalating global crises while driving forward digital solutions for children. From keeping UNICEF operations running during floods at our data centre in Valencia, to supporting families in conflict zones with access to essential services, ICTD demonstrated resilience and preparedness when it mattered most. But our work didn’t stop there. In 2024, ICTD also: - Supported emergency operations in the State of Palestine, Lebanon, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen  - Successfully activated disaster recovery protocols during the Valencia data centre flooding  - Advanced digital inclusion in South Asia and pioneered affordable tech access  - Mapped under-immunized children in West Africa, and expanded the Bebbo parenting app  - Laid the groundwork for UNICEF’s AI Strategy 2025–2030 to guide responsible and impactful use of AI     Read our 2024 ICTD Annual Report to learn more about how UNICEF ICTD is helping to create a safer and more connected future for every child.     https://lnkd.in/eY3gRvpZ    #DigitalImpact

  • In Lao PDR, healthcare workers used to rely on paper-based records to track vaccinations. Booklets were easily lost, data was inconsistent, and healthcare staff spent more time filling out forms than caring for patients.     Today, thanks to UNICEF and support from the Government of Japan, an electronic immunization registry is easing workloads and improving care. For parents in remote villages, this digital shift means better access to life-saving vaccines and outreach services.      "Since we have the electronic immunization registry system, everything is much more convenient, and it saves us a lot of time. It's much easier to compare the data." - Dr. Xia Bouapao, a dedicated healthcare worker in Vang Vieng District Hospital.    Read the full story to learn how digital transformation is making healthcare more accessible for families across Lao PDR.   https://lnkd.in/eQKjP9Ys
