Riccardo Mori’s Summary

My experience in translating, but also in desktop publishing and book designing starts back in 1993, when I was an active member of the cultural association Arte Eventuale. Mainly based in Milan, the association’s activities encompassed literature, music and theatre. During the years 1993-1998, Arte Eventuale published four poetry books in numbered copies. I took care of the whole book design, helping choose the original texts to present, deciding the book format and fonts to use, the cover material and layout, taking care of the typing, editing and proofreading.

I speak Italian, English and Spanish. My educational background is literary. During the university years I focused on philology, italian and english literature and art history. My passion with computers started in the early 1980s: I used Commodore, Apple, Atari, IBM and Compaq machines. In 1989 I started being involved in DTP, part-time working in mixed PC/Mac environments. I adopted the Macintosh as my main platform in 1993.

I’ve been doing technical translations since 2001. Among the books I’ve translated (completely or in part) are manuals on Dreamweaver 4, Fireworks 4, on Apache, on digital photography, on Flash MX, PHP, C#, Ajax, Adobe Photoshop CS. I also translated part of Mac OS X: the Missing Manual by David Pogue, which has been one of the books I really enjoyed translating.

Since 2001 I’ve also been translating Bruce Schneier’s Crypto-Gram, free monthly newsletter providing summaries, analyses, insights, and commentaries on security: computer and otherwise. It is web-published in Italian by Communication Valley.

I’ve been a collaborator of Macworld Italia magazine since 2002.
